Become someone who turns “we have a problem” into “here is what we know.”

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

There is a large difference between the person who raises the alarm and the person who arrives with what they have found out. The first passes the problem along, the second has already narrowed it, and everyone learns quickly which one they want to hear from. Becoming the second kind is mostly a matter of spending twenty minutes before speaking.

Next time something goes wrong, gather what you can establish before reporting it. What happened, when it started, what you ruled out. You do not need the solution. Bringing the facts rather than the panic changes the whole conversation.
