A chessboard punishes the player who confuses movement with progress.

Activity is comforting because it produces the sensation of doing something, and that sensation is available whether or not the moves improve your position. In any situation with real structure, a move that changes nothing still costs you a turn, and turns are finite. Busyness can be a very expensive way to feel productive. The question is never whether you moved but whether you are better placed than before.
At the end of a busy week, ask what is actually different about your position rather than what you completed. If nothing has shifted, that is worth knowing early. Fewer deliberate moves usually beat a constant stream of reactive ones.
What have you been busy with that has moved nothing forward?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
