Adversity is the first path to truth.

— Lord Byron

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Comfort lets you keep a flattering story about yourself and the people around you. Trouble tends to remove it. When something goes badly wrong, you find out quickly which of your assumptions were load-bearing and which were decoration, who answers the phone, and what you actually value once the extras fall away. None of that makes hardship good, only unusually honest, and honesty is hard to come by any other way.

If you are in a difficult stretch, keep a short note of what it is showing you before the details blur. Not lessons, just observations. They will be worth reading when the pressure lifts.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What did a hard season show you that comfort never would?
