Preparedness includes knowing what to do when the plan fails.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being ready is not the same as having a plan. A plan covers the expected path, while readiness covers what you do when that path disappears, and the second is the harder and more useful thing. Anyone can follow steps while the steps still apply.

Take your current plan and ask what you would do if its main assumption turned out to be false. You do not need a full alternative, only a first move and a sense of who you would call. Having a first move is often the difference between a setback and a spiral.
