Human beings must be known to be loved; but Divine beings must be loved to be known.

— Blaise Pascal

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

With people, affection follows understanding. You learn someone’s history, their fears, the way they take bad news, and warmth grows out of what you found. But some things do not open to inspection. What is larger than you, whatever you call it, tends to stay closed until you approach it with some trust already in hand.

Notice which mode a relationship is asking of you this week. If you are holding back love from something until it proves itself, consider whether proof is the kind of thing it gives. Try offering the trust first and see what becomes visible.
