My friends are my estate.

— Emily Dickinson

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Wealth is usually counted in what you own, and that count leaves out the part of your life that actually holds you up. The people who know you, who would answer late at night, who remember what you were like years ago, are an accumulation too, built slowly and easy to neglect. It is the holding that tends to keep its value when the rest does not.

Think of the friendships you have let run on goodwill alone, and choose one. Call, or make a plan that asks something of you. An estate is kept by tending, and this one is no different.
