Comebacks start as rough drafts. Nobody’s first step back looks like a movie scene.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
The first attempt after a setback is usually clumsy and unconvincing, and people take that as evidence the recovery is not real. Beginnings are rough by nature, because you are out of practice and your confidence has not caught up with your intent. The polished version people admire later was built out of a series of unremarkable days.
Lower the standard for the first week on purpose and just get the motion back. Show up badly rather than perfectly, then again. Judge it after a month, when there is enough of it to judge.
How ordinary could your first step back afford to be?
