Your hometown has a sound, a smell and a slang. Put it in your work. Nobody else can.

CREATIVITY
Where you grew up gave you a set of details nobody outside it holds in the same combination. The slang, the weather, what the air smells like near a certain road, the thing everyone says when something goes wrong. Those feel too ordinary to use, because they are ordinary to you. To anyone else they are the part of the work nobody could have invented.
Write a list of twenty things that are true about your place and would confuse someone from elsewhere. Put three of them into whatever you are making without explaining them. Unexplained is usually what makes them land.
