Version two is where good ideas grow up. Almost nobody’s first version is their best.

First versions exist to find out what the thing is. You are guessing about structure and tone the entire time you make one, and only when it is finished can you see the whole shape and know what belonged there. That knowledge is simply not available earlier, which is why the second attempt is where the idea finally gets built properly.

Rather than endlessly patching the first one, try rebuilding from scratch now that you know. Keep what worked and rewrite the rest. It usually moves faster than the first and comes out much stronger.
