Hope is not certainty; it is permission to continue.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Hope does not claim to know how things will turn out. What it provides is permission to keep going in the absence of that knowledge, which is what most situations actually require. Demanding certainty before continuing is asking hope to do something it was never for.

When you catch yourself needing to know it will work out, notice that you do not need to know, only to continue. Ask what the next step is regardless of the ending. That is usually enough to keep moving.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you keep going with if certainty were not required?
