If you see your grandparents twice a year, do the math on how many visits are left. Then call more.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Time with the oldest people in your family is not a flow, it is a countable number, and the count is smaller than it feels. Twice a year is not much when you write it out. That is not a reason to panic, just the sort of arithmetic nobody does until it is finished, and doing it early is the only way it changes anything.

Call this week, with no occasion. Ask something you have never asked: what their first job was, what their street looked like, who they were scared of. Record it if they will let you. You will not regret making the time.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How many more visits with your grandparents are realistically left?
