The safe bet looks like the version of you that already knows things, while the useful bet is the one still working it out. Fixed ability plateaus quickly. Somebody who keeps learning is unfinished on purpose and improves every year in ways nobody can predict from a snapshot of today. That is the version worth backing with your time.

Put your hours into something you are currently not good at. Take the role slightly above what you can do. When choosing between comfortable and instructive, pick the second more often than you do now.
