Don’t stay on a team just because you’re scared of being new on another one.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Familiarity is a powerful reason to stay and a poor one. Knowing everyone’s names and where the equipment lives is comfortable, and comfort can look exactly like belonging until you check. Fear of starting over will always argue for the room you are already in, because that argument costs nothing. The question is whether you would choose this place today if you were choosing fresh.

Ask yourself whether you are staying for the people and the work or for the absence of awkwardness. If it is the awkwardness, go visit the other option once without committing. One conversation with someone there usually shrinks the fear considerably.
