If your account and your actual life met in person, would they recognize each other?

Every account edits, and that by itself is fine. The trouble starts when the distance grows wide enough that you are maintaining a character instead of living, because the character needs feeding and the praise it collects never quite reaches you. You end up doing unpaid work for a version of yourself you do not get to be.

Post one ordinary true thing this week, or post nothing and notice how that feels. Another option is simply to look at what you leave out and ask whether you are hiding it or just keeping it. Both answers are allowed.
