The best leaders make boring tasks feel like part of something. The worst make exciting ones feel like homework.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Work does not feel meaningful or meaningless on its own, it takes that from the frame around it. Tie a dull task to something the group actually cares about and people will do it willingly. Strip that connection away and even the interesting parts start feeling like an obligation somebody imposed on them. Leaders control that frame constantly, mostly without noticing.

When you hand out the boring job, say what it is for in one sentence. Not a rallying speech, just the reason. Then do a share of it yourself where people can see.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How could you make the dull task matter to someone?
