Feedback right after a loss lands like a bruise. Wait a day and it lands like advice.
LEADERSHIP
LEADERSHIP
Right after something goes badly, people are still living inside the event and there is no space left for analysis. Anything you say gets filed as blame, even when it is not, because that is what a rattled brain does with words. The same sentence a day later lands as useful. Nothing changed except the timing, which turns out to be most of it.
When something falls apart, say one short true thing and stop: that was rough, we will look at it tomorrow. Then actually look at it tomorrow. Write your notes down in the meantime so you do not lose them.
When do you usually deliver criticism, and does the timing help?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
