Walk alongside people for a while before you ask them to follow.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Trust does not get handed to someone who has not been near you. Time spent doing the ordinary work next to people is what makes a later request reasonable, because by then they know how you behave when it is boring. Skipping that and going straight to direction produces polite compliance with nothing underneath. The relationship has to exist first.

Spend some time this week doing the plain work beside the people you want to lead, with no instruction attached. Do the same tasks they do. Ask about their part rather than explaining yours.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How well do you know the people you want following?
