Create something the future would be annoyed to lose.

A useful test of value is subtraction. Ask whether anyone would notice or mind if the thing quietly disappeared. Most output would not survive that question, and the small amount that would is where your real contribution lives. Annoyance at its absence is a better signal than praise for its presence.

Apply the test to what you are working on. If nobody would miss it, either change what it is or accept that it is filler and spend less of yourself on it. Aim at the thing that would leave a gap.
