Stop editing yourself mid-sentence to sound more like the group.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

It happens fast, usually below the level of deciding. You start a sentence with your own opinion in it, read the room halfway through, and land somewhere safer than where you were headed. Each edit is tiny on its own. Stacked up across a year they build a version of you the group likes and you do not quite recognize.

Catch one of those edits this week and finish the sentence you started. It sounds much louder in your head than it does in the room. Nearly always nothing happens, and you get a little of yourself back.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Around whom do you change your words halfway through saying them?
