Dull tasks are how people find out whether you can be handed anything at all. Nobody gives the interesting work to someone who needs reminding about the simple work, since the interesting work has more places to go wrong. The boring stuff is not a test designed to insult you, it is the only evidence available this early. Doing it well and without commentary moves you faster than asking to be moved.

Take the least glamorous item on your list and finish it properly, ahead of when it is due. Then ask for something harder. That ask lands completely differently with a record behind it.
