The best friendships survive doing absolutely nothing together. If you need a plan to enjoy them, it’s an event.

The real test of a friendship is an empty afternoon. Plans carry a conversation for you, because there is always something to react to and the activity supplies the energy. Take the activity away and you find out whether you like the person or the arrangement. Sitting around with nothing happening and no urge to fill it is a specific and fairly rare comfort.
Do nothing with somebody on purpose this week. No plan, no destination, just a couch or a walk that goes nowhere. However that feels is a fair reading of where the friendship is.
With whom can you sit around doing nothing and enjoy it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
