Some friendships end because of timetables and new schools rather than any wrongdoing, and the missing reason can make it feel like a failure. It usually is not one. People are shaped partly by who is nearby, and when the nearness goes, what it produced can quietly finish. None of that makes the years fake in hindsight.

If one is fading, you can let it fade without a dramatic conversation about it. Send a message saying what that time was worth to you, with nothing asked for at the end. Then let the next thing begin instead of dragging the old one behind you.
