Everyone was new somewhere once. Right now it’s your turn, and it won’t be your turn forever.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Everyone in the room who looks settled arrived at some point knowing nothing. What you are feeling is a stage of arriving rather than a trait, and it is temporary in a very literal way, since in six months you will be the one who knows where things are. That does not make this week comfortable. It does mean the condition passes.

While you are new, ask questions freely, because the window where that is expected is short and useful. Learn names and where things are kept. Then remember this feeling later, when someone else walks in for the first time.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where are you the new one right now?
