Pivoting isn’t quitting. It’s taking what worked and pointing it somewhere better.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Changing direction gets confused with giving up, and the difference is whether you carry the work forward. Quitting leaves everything behind, while a turn keeps the skills, the relationships and the information you paid for and aims them at a better target. Persistence in the wrong direction is not a virtue, only an expense.

If you are considering a change, list what transfers before you decide. Usually it is more than you expected. Then check whether you are moving toward something specific or only away from discomfort, because the first is a turn and the second repeats itself.
