The people who knew you before anything worked out are the only ones who can tell if you’ve changed.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Newer people have no baseline. They meet whatever version of you is currently on display and accept it as the whole person, which means they cannot warn you about drift. Old friends hold the comparison, and that is why their opinion is both valuable and uncomfortable.
Keep at least a few of those people close enough that they can say something awkward to you. Ask one directly whether you have changed, and be quiet while they answer. Do not argue with the reply, even the part that seems unfair, until you have sat with it for a day.
Which old friend would tell you honestly how you have changed?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
