Cringe is the tax you pay on growth. Everyone who got good paid it.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being new at something looks awkward from outside and feels worse from inside, and there is no route around that stage. Skill arrives after a period of visible incompetence. Everyone whose work you admire went through their own embarrassing early material, and most of them can still remember it.

Accept the awkward phase as a cost you already agreed to when you decided to learn. Keep the early attempts somewhere you can look back at them. Being willing to be bad in public for a few months buys you years of being good.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which of your old attempts makes you wince hardest?
