LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Leadership gets imagined as the front of the room, and the actual work is often the end of the night. Anyone will take the visible part. Far fewer stay for the cleanup once the crowd and the credit have both gone home. Taking the job nobody wants, without being asked, is the whole demonstration, and there is nothing symbolic about it.

Stay behind this week at something and do the part that is left over. Do not narrate it, do not post it, do not wait to be thanked. Then notice which people stayed with you, since that is a useful thing to know about who is actually around you.
