Saying “God told me” to win an argument is using His name like a trump card. Careful.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Invoking a higher authority ends a conversation rather than settling it. The other person is left with nothing to say, since disagreeing now sounds like disagreeing with God, which is what makes the move so tempting and so unfair. Sometimes people believe they were led. The danger is the moment that belief turns into a way of winning.
When you catch yourself reaching for it, say what you think and why, in ordinary language. Let your reasoning be examined like anyone else’s. If you truly believe you were guided, say so plainly and leave the other person room to disagree without feeling they are arguing with heaven.
Which authority have you invoked to end a disagreement?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
