At work, the idea you swallowed is the one somebody else gets credit for next quarter.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Ideas do not stay unsaid. They get said by somebody else eventually, and credit follows whoever spoke. Holding back feels like prudence at the time, because the thought is half-formed, the timing is off, or someone more senior has surely had it already, and those reasons are available every single time. Meanwhile the idea does not improve while it sits.

Say the unfinished version in the next meeting, and say that it is unfinished. Ten seconds will do. An imperfect contribution with your name on it beats a perfect one nobody heard.
