They simply notice whether your own house is in order and quietly adjust how much weight your instructions carry. It is not about being flawless; it is that asking for something you visibly do not do yourself opens a gap everybody can see and nobody mentions.

Take the standard you most often ask of others and hold it yourself for a month without commenting on it. The influence that follows does not have to be requested.
