Ask what you’d do every day for free. It won’t always pay, but it’ll always point.

REFLECTION
Something you would do without payment is pointing at a real preference, and the pointing is the useful part rather than any promise about a career. Money and enjoyment overlap unpredictably, and plenty of what you love is unpayable. What the question strips out is obligation, which is what usually obscures the answer.
Ask it honestly and write down whatever comes, including the answers that seem impractical. Then look for the shape underneath rather than the job title. That shape can often be worked into a life even when the activity itself never pays for anything.
What would you still do daily if it never paid anything?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
