One person burned you. That’s a reason to check the stove, not to stop cooking forever.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
One bad experience produces a rule that is far too wide. The mind generalizes for protection, so a single betrayal becomes a policy about people, and the policy then costs you more than the original event did. The caution is earned; the size of it usually is not.
Make the lesson specific instead of general. Name what you actually missed, what you would look for now, what you would do differently at the point it went wrong. Then keep going with that one adjustment rather than a closed door, which is the more expensive option over time.
What have you stopped trying because one person burned you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
