After you’ve lied, their doubt isn’t mean. It’s just math.

Trust is a prediction built from a record, so when the record changes the prediction changes with it. Their caution is not cruelty and not a grudge. It is a reasonable adjustment by somebody updating on new information, and asking them to skip that step is asking them to ignore what they saw.

What rebuilds it is slow and unglamorous: small promises kept where nobody is counting except them. Do not ask how long it will take, because that puts the burden back on them. Be reliable for longer than feels necessary and let the record do its own work.
