The deepest freedom may be reaching a point where neither your past nor your resistance to it gets to choose who you become.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Two things can govern a life: what happened to you, and your reaction against what happened to you. Both leave the direction being set from behind. The rarest position is the one where the past is genuinely part of your history rather than your steering, and where you no longer need to prove anything about it in either direction.

Watch for choices made either in the pattern or against it. Ask what you would want here if none of it had happened. You will not always be able to answer, and asking it repeatedly is how the past gradually becomes something you carry rather than something that drives.
