Firefighters have a rule: two go in, two stay out ready. Even brave people build backup into the plan.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Courage and recklessness get confused because both involve moving toward danger. The difference is what has been arranged beforehand. People whose work is genuinely dangerous build in a second line as standard, not because they expect to need it, but because the plan is not finished without one. Backup is not a shortage of confidence, it is what makes the brave part reasonable.
Add a second line to whatever you are attempting this term. Somebody who knows the plan, a fallback option, money held back, a date by which you will reassess. Set it up while things are going well, since that is the only time it is easy.
Who is your backup if the plan goes wrong?
