A dojo gives you a hard partner on purpose. Easy partners feel nice and teach you a lot less.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Being matched against somebody better is uncomfortable and efficient. An easy partner lets your mistakes go unpunished, so you never find out which ones are mistakes, and you leave feeling good and unchanged. A hard partner exposes exactly where your technique fails, immediately and without discussion. The discomfort is not a side effect of the lesson, it is how the lesson gets delivered.
Choose the harder partner, group or problem once this week when you have the option. Expect to do badly, since that is the design. Note the one thing they exploited every single time, because that is your next month of work.
