Your body after an injury needs patience. Your ego after a loss needs the same thing.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Pride heals on much the same terms as tissue: slowly, with rest, and never on the schedule you would prefer. Both get worse when you test them early to prove nothing is wrong. The impatience in the two cases is the same impatience, and it comes from hating the feeling of being diminished rather than from any real deadline.

If you lost badly recently, give it the allowance you would give an ankle. Do the light version for a few days instead of demanding a statement performance. Telling one person that it stung is the equivalent of putting weight on it slowly.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where does your pride still need time to mend?
