Being told no by ten jobs doesn’t mean you’re unhireable. It means you’ve applied to ten jobs. Keep counting.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Ten rejections measures how many applications you sent, not what you are worth to an employer. Hiring runs mostly on timing, numbers and whoever happened to apply the same week, and almost none of that is visible from outside. The feeling of being unhireable arrives long before the evidence would support it, usually somewhere around the fourth no.

Keep a simple record of where you applied and when, so the number stays a number instead of a mood. Aim to send a set amount each week rather than waiting to feel like it. Ask one person who works somewhere you want to be what they would change about your application.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How many applications have you actually sent so far?
