The second time you fail at something, it hurts less and teaches more.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The first failure spends most of its energy on shock, on what it might mean about you, on being seen. Very little attention is left for the mechanics of what went wrong. By the second time you already know the feeling passes, so you can look at the thing itself instead of at yourself. That is why the second attempt is usually where the learning sits.

If something has gone wrong once, treat the next attempt as the one you expect to learn from, and go in with a question rather than a hope. Name beforehand the one part you will watch closely, then check it afterwards whatever the result.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What have you failed at twice, and what changed the second time?
