Some friends won’t share your ambition. That doesn’t make them bad friends. It makes them people with different goals.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Wanting different things from life is not a betrayal and it is not a verdict on you. A friend content where they are can still be loyal, funny and there at two in the morning, and expecting them to want your goal turns the friendship into a recruitment exercise. Shared ambition is lovely and it is not the basis of most good friendships. Different is not lesser.

Stop auditioning your friends for your plan. Keep one or two people who do share the goal for that part of your life, and let the others be good at what they are good at.
