How you treat the new hire is a choice the whole team is watching.

Everybody in a workplace watches how the newest person gets handled, because it tells them what the place is like when somebody has no standing yet. Showing a new starter where things are kept, or covering for them in their first week, is noticed well beyond the two of you. So is the opposite, and the opposite is remembered longer.

When somebody new starts, tell them one thing nobody wrote down: where the spare rota lives, which regular is a handful, how the till actually behaves. Use their name in front of the others. It costs a minute and it makes you the person people want on their shift.
