Some choices you can undo next week. Some you can’t. Spend your caution on the second kind.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Nearly everything people agonize over is reversible: the wrong class, a haircut, a job you can leave. A much smaller set is not, or not easily. A signature on twelve months, a tattoo, something said in public, a risk taken with your body or somebody else’s. Spending the same amount of worry on both kinds means the ones that matter get no more care than the ones you could fix next week.

Before the next decision, ask what undoing it would take: nothing, a conversation, or a year. Move quickly on the cheap ones. Save the sleep-on-it, ask-somebody treatment for the short list that really sticks.
