Being the first in your family to go to college means no one can give you the map. You draw it while walking.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
You will spend energy on things other people inherit. Which forms matter, what the words mean, who to ask when something goes wrong, how much of the advice you are given is actually optional. That is a real extra load and it is not a signal that you do not belong there. Nobody at home can hand you the map, not through any failing of theirs, simply because they have not walked it.
Get the map from somewhere else. An advisor, a second year student, the desk whose whole job is answering this. Ask the question you think is too obvious.
Are you drawing a map your family has never seen?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
