Signing up for the race you might finish last in is still a better day than watching it.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Last place still ran the race. Watching produces nothing at all except the memory of standing there, and yet the two options do not feel equally weighted, because the fear of finishing at the back is social rather than practical. Spectators forget results within about a week. The person who entered keeps the day.
Enter the one you would finish near the back of, and set a goal that belongs to you rather than to the field. A time, a stretch you will not walk, a lap you will not slow on. Then measure yourself against that.
Would you rather finish last or watch from the fence?
