You cannot become more while remaining loyal to everything that keeps you less.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

You cannot expand while remaining faithful to every arrangement that depends on your staying the same. Some habits, commitments, and relationships are structured around a smaller version of you, and keeping all of them intact is itself the constraint. Loyalty is a real virtue and it can be misapplied to things that are simply holding you in place. The choice is usually not dramatic, only quiet and repeated.

Name one thing you keep out of loyalty rather than because it is good for you. Ask what it is actually owed. Then decide deliberately whether to keep it, which is different from keeping it by default.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What are you still loyal to that keeps you where you are?
