If you only work hard when it’s fun, you have a hobby, not a habit.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Nothing is wrong with having a hobby, and it helps to know which one you have. A hobby runs on appetite and stops when the appetite does, while a habit keeps going through the stretches that are merely work. Confusing the two leaves you puzzled about why you are not improving. Naming it honestly lets you either upgrade it or enjoy it as it is.

Decide for one thing in your life which of the two you want it to be. If a habit, fix the times and go on the dull days too. If a hobby, stop expecting progress and let it be the fun part of your week.
