Participation is not an audition, however much it feels like one when you can hear yourself. Worrying about the quality of your voice moves your attention from what you came to do to how you are coming across, which is a remarkably effective way of not being present at all. Nobody set skill as the entry condition. Self-consciousness is the only thing actually stopping you.

Join in on something this week where you are no good: the singing, the discussion, the game. Do it at whatever volume you can manage and let it be rough. Notice that nobody in the room was grading you.
