Generosity isn’t about the size of your wallet. It’s about how tight your grip is.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Generosity is a relationship with having rather than an amount. Somebody with very little can give easily and somebody with plenty can find every reason not to, which tells you the variable is grip rather than quantity. Tightness comes from fear about the future, and it does not loosen as the numbers grow. Waiting until you can afford it is usually waiting forever.

Give something small away this week on purpose, while money is still tight: a few dollars, an hour, the last of something you were saving. Pay attention to what it costs you emotionally rather than financially. The habit gets built at this size.
