Win like someone who knows where the talent came from.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
How you win is a statement about how you understand your own ability. Treating a victory as proof of your superiority requires believing you produced yourself, which quietly leaves out coaches, parents, practice partners, the body you were given and plain luck. Gratitude and confidence are compatible, and together they make somebody bearable to lose to. Arrogance in winning is mostly a failure of memory.
After your next win, say something specific and true about who helped you get there. Speak to whoever came second, briefly, without consoling them. Keep the celebration and drop the part where it means you are better than people.
