Greeting people at the door means you might be the first kind face someone saw all week.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A door is a threshold in more than the architectural sense. Somebody coming in may have had a week where nobody looked at them properly, and the first face they meet decides whether they relax or brace. That is an enormous amount of weight on a greeting, and it is why the job is never actually trivial. You are not welcoming them to a building. You are telling them they are not invisible.

Take the greeting job this week if it is going. If not, do it unofficially, near the entrance, for twenty minutes.
